Cycling in the Caernarfon area

cycling in caernarfonThe area around Caernarfon has a large range of cycling paths which are ideal for solo rides, or indeed romantic cycles or family journeys. Made even more accessible by the Welsh Highland Railway which is now possible to take bikes on, giving you access to a wide range of tracks, including those that go back to Caernarfon, so you can have a nice scenic train journey as well as an adrenaline pumping or relaxing bike ride. Popular routes include;

Lôn Eifion, Caernarfon

This is a well known route that’s used frequently, stretching twelve and a half miles from Caernarfon to Bryncir.

Lôn Las Menai

This track has a nice length of four miles, running along the Menai strait, providing a scenic ride for the casual cycler and family groups. This route runs from Y Felinheli  to Caernarfon.

Y Foryd

While being a quiet country lane and a very nice cycle this is not traffic free so take this into consideration. However this route runs along the shoreline and with breathtaking views over the menai straits of Anglesey its worth that extra bit of hassle.

A good route of 17 miles is to go from Caernarfon to Llandwrog to Dinas Sinalle to Groeslon and back to Caernarfon. You can start and finish at Caernarfon Castle Car Park and is a nice easy round shaped ride with lovely scenic views.

Do some homework on the area if you fancy a more adventurous route like this and remember to bring a map so you don’t get lost.

If you can’t be doing with the kerfuffle of bringing your bike over to Caernarfon, cycle hire is available from a range of places, including Beics Menai, which are local to the area.
Take care, good luck and have a pleasant ride!
