Pili Palas Nature World - Local Family Attraction near Tyn Rhos Country House Hotel Caernarfon

Close to the fantastic towns of Bangor and Caernarfon there is the fluttering of tiny wings – the sound is coming from Pili Pals Nature World, Y Felinheli. If you’re considering a short or long stay in the area then why not treat yourself to the luxurious settings of Ty’n Rhos Country House Hotel Caernarfon.

Its name is a welsh play on words – ‘Pili-Pala’ is the welsh translation for ‘butterfly’, and ‘Palas’ the welsh version of ‘palace’. And it does exactly what it says on the tin. Open all year round Pili Palas is full of lots of different types of beautiful butterflies. But there is a lot more to see than butterflies alone. Inside you will see lots of fantastic furry animals, a host of tropical birds, a variety of reptiles and many other strange and wonderful creatures.

All of these wonders are encased inside a magical tropical environment which is brimming with lush vegetation and steamy waterfalls...and of course; butterflies! It really is quite a sight to behold. And no matter what the weather outside – you’re guaranteed a comfortable and warm environment inside.

There is lots to do and see for both the adult and the child alike. You can take a meander through the farmyard where you are sure to bump into Milly and Molly the pygmy goats, and never too far behind, you’ll see Bert and Ernie the Kune Kune pigs. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Pili Palas has added 4 new additions to their animal family. John, Paul, George and Ringo are the 4 fun-loving meerkats that are now seen scampering around!

There are rabbits and guinea pigs to stroke in Pets Corner and lots of different snakes and lizards for the inquisitive. If you are feeling a little more daring then why not venture into the tropical lair - that’s unless you’re scared of tarantulas, scorpions and fire bellied toads? Also not for the squeamish is the gloriously named Bug Zone; here you will both see and hear a mixture of cockroaches, millipedes, giant snails and locusts.

If the little ones get tired of all of the animals (not that they will!) you can let them off their leash onto the giant bouncy castle and adventure playground. Little toddlers can waddle around the indoor play area while you have a deserved rest.

And when everyone has got rid of all of that energy, all that’s left to do is to fill yourself up in the café. If you’re lucky enough to get a window seat then you can watch the meerkats while you feast!
Pili Palas is one of the Top Ten Welsh Tourism Attractions and really deserves it. It’s a great day out and the kids are sure to have a good night’s sleep afterwards!
