Etape Cycling Event Caernarfon

Cycling in CaernarfonAbout 500 Cyclist took part in the very first Etape event in Snowdonia, which included a variety of races of different lengths. Everyone has high hopes that this will become an annual event, and aims to boost the local economy in Gwynedd. The idea apparently grew from one singular race into something so much bigger, and is now a fantastic event for cycling, the environment and the local economy.

The route is scenic and beautiful which added some flavour and charm to the event, making it an instant favorite. Locals were also happy to be sharing their much loved roads with cyclist from all over.

The three routes featured in the event includes the ‘Etape Mawr’, ‘Etape Canol’ and the ‘Etape Bach’, these mean ‘big’ ‘middle’ and ‘small’ in welsh respectively, so the event is tailored to meet a varied level of ability.

All routes start and finish at one location the ancient Caernarfon Castle (just a short drive from Tyn Rhos Country House Hotel Caernarfon). All routes also include the ‘Hill Climb Time Trial’ which is an opportunity to test yourself against every single other competitor in the competition, sitting at approximately 16 miles into the ride is the ‘Drws y Coed’ pass, which is situated at the head of the Nantlle Valley, its location, start and finish are very clearly indicated.

All routes are just as beautiful and provide staggering views, while being very challenging at the same time. The event has been confirmed for a 2013 return with registration opening at 9am on Monday 3rd of September, which is absolutely fantastic news for the local community and cycling enthusiasts, in time who knows what this event could become?
