About Us
The founder of Carenza Care was the late Lynda Ann Boughey RMN
Lynda developed Carenza Care, following a successful career caring for young adults with Alcohol Related Dementia dating back to 1996. Lynda worked in the area of Dementia care from 1989 and qualified as an RMN in 1993 and worked with her first Korsakoffs client in 1996 and from then took a special interest in the care and rehabilitation of this client group. In 1997 the client group were provided with normalisation and socialisation models in her own small residential home for 3, called Bryn Derw in Craig-Y-Don Llandudno.
Expertise and Knowledge
The size of this home, its high staffing level and family run environment allowed the clients to improve and helped Lynda and Laura to gain and their expertise and knowledge from the clients themselves. On closing, Bryn Derw was relocated to a unit in Colwyn Bay which, under the management of Lynda, and deputy Laura this unit grew from 4 to 20 residents in less than a year showing the need for this specialised care, the unit became well renowned with service users coming from all over England and Wales and some returning to their own areas on the successful completion of the rehabilitation programme developed by Lynda. Lynda and her specialised knowledge moved on to enable her to develop further services in other areas. To increase the spread of knowledge, by developing services in England, providing training for other areas, writing articles and taking part in conferences.
Appropriate Care and Support
Laura continues to follow Lynda’s vision about the clients in her care and one's who need this type of care and is involved in developing services to provide more individuals with this particular illness, access to appropriate care. As well as running her own company she is also available as consultant, using her expertise to train, develop units throughout England and Wales, and providing an assessment service placing clients in the most appropriate setting. Some of the Service Users receiving care from this domiciliary agency have been in residential units where Lynda and Laura provided the rehabilitative package of care and some of these clients now live independently with support from Carenza Care, proving the success Lynda and Laura has had in rehabilitating younger people with this specific dementia.
Lynda had a research paper launched by the department of health; this is available on the Department of Health website or by downloading here. Lynda’s family are at present completing Lynda’s book, and compiling all Lynda’s work to look for future publication so that all though we aren’t lucky enough to still have Lynda with us, her years of work and commitment to this client group will not be wasted, Lynda’s work will continue to help others.
We all at Carenza wish to continue developing help in all area for clients with Korsakoffs. We will follow all Lynda’s models of care.
Laura will continue to provide the late Lynda Boughey’s training package at home and nationwide to agencies who are keen to learn and provide a service for this group of individuals, including NHS Trusts keen to develop a National Service Framework.
More About ARBD & Korsakoff Syndrome
Acute excess intake of alcohol can cause drunkenness (intoxication) or even death, and chronic or long-term abuse leads to potentially irreversible damage to virtually any level of the nervous system. However, how much an individual is affected by alcohol will depend upon their genes, how well nourished they are and other environmental factors. [ more ]
